It's the most widely played variant in the world and the format with the largest library of learning resources available. The core concept is straightforward: you get two private cards, share five community cards with your opponents, and try to make the best five-card hand. The most common mistake new Hold'em players make at the Mr Hand micro-stakes tables is playing too many starting hands. The temptation to get involved in every pot is understandable, but mathematically it's costly. Solid players are selective – they fold the majority of hands pre-flop and play aggressively when they do get involved. Omaha – particularly Pot-Limit Omaha – is the second most popular format on Mr Hand. You cannot use three hole cards and two community cards, even if that combination would give you a stronger hand. Bankroll management is the unglamorous but absolutely critical side of poker that separates winning players from those who run out of money and quit. The general principle for tournament play is to have at least 50–100 buy-ins for the stakes you're competing at. For cash games, having 20–30 buy-ins at your table's maximum is a sensible starting point.
